On Monday, April 13, 2026, Attorney Leslie Jennings-Lax appeared before the Connecticut Supreme Court to argue on behalf of a de facto parent in Perez v. Carusillo. Attorney Jennings-Lax claimed that the trial court improperly concluded that the 2021 Connecticut Parentage Act intended to treat families differently depending on the parents’ sexual orientation and marital status and also improperly determined that a parent could veto a determination of de facto parentage even when all other factors, including the teenage children’s wishes, were in favor of the recognition.
